1. Qui est responsable de tes données ?

L'association Austral, association loi 1901, 35 bis rue Saint-Sabin, 75011 Paris, France. Pour toute question : contact@austral-asso.org.

2. Sur le site

3. Dans l'application

Ton compte

Privacy policy

Last updated: 30 September 2026

This policy explains what data we process when you use the austral-ranger.app website and the Ranger app (iOS and Android), why, and how to exercise your rights. We collect the minimum needed to run Ranger. We sell no data and show no ads.

1. Who is responsible for your data?

The Austral association, a French non-profit (loi 1901), 35 bis rue Saint-Sabin, 75011 Paris, France. For any question: contact@austral-asso.org.

2. On the website

3. In the app

Your account

You can create an account with Apple, Google or an email address, or try the app without signing up. We keep your email and sign-in method. If you use Apple or Google, we do not collect your photo or your contacts.

Your Ranger profile

What you choose in the app: your first name, your code name, your character, the causes you care about, your ecosystem, your Wildlands and your base camp (a city name and its coordinates).

Your activity

Your missions (Wildland, organisation, duration, dates), your progress, your badges and skills, and your preferences (language, notifications).

Your subscription

Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google: we never see your bank details. We only receive your subscription status (active or not, renewal date).

Your location

If you allow it, the app uses your approximate location during onboarding, only to place you on the globe. It is neither stored on our servers nor shared, and is never used in the background. You can refuse: the app works the same way.

Searching for your city

When you search for your base camp, the text you type is sent to Mapbox to suggest cities. Mapbox also displays the globe map.

Crash reports

If the app crashes, a technical report (device model, system version, error trace) is sent to Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix the problem. It contains neither your name nor your email.

Notifications

With your consent, the app schedules reminders on your phone (start of the month, end of a mission). They are created on your device: no data is sent for this.

What the app does not do

It does not access your camera, photos or contacts. It does not track you across apps and contains no ads.

4. Why, and on what basis?

PurposeLegal basis
Creating your account, running the app, your missions and progressPerformance of the service you use
Managing your subscriptionPerformance of the contract
Fixing crashesOur legitimate interest in a reliable app
Location during onboarding, reminders, waitlistYour consent, which you can withdraw at any time
Keeping our accounts and publishing the amounts paid to non-profitsLegal obligation and transparency (totals only, no personal data)

Your account and profile data are required to use the app: without them, we cannot provide the service. The rest is optional. We make no automated decisions about you and do no profiling.

5. Who receives your data?

Only the service providers that run Ranger, on Austral's behalf:

ProviderRoleLocation
Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Crashlytics, Hosting)Account, app data, crash reports, website hostingGoogle Cloud EMEA Limited, Ireland (some services are operated by Google LLC, United States)
Apple, Google (Sign in, App Store, Google Play)Sign-in and subscription paymentUnited States, Ireland
MapboxGlobe map, city searchUnited States
Tally, Make, MailerLiteWaitlist and launch emailEuropean Union

The non-profits on the ground receive no personal data about you: only the amounts paid to them. When a provider is located outside the European Union, the transfer is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework if the provider has joined it, or by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

6. How long?

7. Your rights

You can access, correct and erase your data, restrict or object to its use, receive it in a readable format, and withdraw your consent at any time. Write to contact@austral-asso.org: we reply within one month.

You can delete your account directly in the app settings, or ask us by email (see the Support page). Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription: remember to cancel it from your store too.

If you believe your rights are not respected, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).

8. Changes

If this policy changes significantly, we will let you know in the app. The date of the last update appears at the top of this page.
